Situated within a deep valley in the heart of the Chiltern countryside, High Wycombe takes its name from the river Wye and the word for a wooded valley, combe. Buckinghamshire is one of the few remaining counties that has a selective educational system. As a result, several grammar schools in Wycombe can be found high up the league tables.The town is also home to Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and there are an array of primary and secondary schools, both state and private, in the area.

Wycombe has excellent transport links and lies on major bus, train and road networks.There is a central bus station that has routes to surrounding towns, including Aylesbury, Reading, Uxbridge and Maidenhead.The town’s railway line sits on the Chiltern line between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill stations. Selected fast trains reach London in 30 minutes.Motorists can access the nearby M40 motorway (junction 4), which also links the town to London and Birmingham.

Project Eden is the current wave of redevelopment being undertaken by Wycombe District Council. It will include an expanded cinema, bowling alley, housing, restaurants, bars and a civic centre. It is expected to be finished by Spring 2008. In addition to the town centre facilities, shoppers will also delight in the out of town facilities at the Cressex roundabout which boasts John Lewis, Fired Earth and Asda, a multi screen cinema complex and various eateries.
