Name: Michelle Relton
Job title: Sales Manager
Q: How long have you worked at Rectory?
A: I started working at Rectory in January 2016, so I’ve been with the company almost two and a half years.
Q: What do you like most about your role at Rectory?
A: I enjoy the interaction that comes with dealing with so many different people, whether that be visitors to our developments, our purchasers or other members of staff. As we are a small developer, we get to form a relationship with our purchasers which I find very satisfying – we deal with actual people rather than ‘just another customer’. There is also a real feeling of pride in the job which every member of staff promotes.
I genuinely look forward starting each new week – the thrill of ‘doing a deal’ never gets old!
Q: What is your typical working day?
A: There is no such thing as a typical day in sales! As well as being pro-active in regards to setting up new sites, I also need to be reactive – if a sale is on the horizon, it takes precedence over anything else! I have a close working relationship with our estate agents and solicitors and will speak to them daily chasing for leads and exchanges.
I am also on site weekly with my sales team, checking the presentation in our show homes is up to scratch and ensuring they are doing all they can to secure the next sale. I also need to be up to speed with how the local competition is performing, so market research is key.
Q: What drew you to the property industry?
A: To be honest, I fell into the industry whilst looking for an administrative job in the late 1990s when I joined a developer as a sales secretary. I quickly fell in love with the buzz of the sales team and wanted to be more involved with the day to day running of plot sales, so was delighted to be promoted to sales co-ordinator and then, a few years later, sales manager.
Q: What three words sum up Rectory?
A: Proud, passionate and teamwork.
